Youth Programming

One of our core values includes the cultivation of growers. We invest in the next generation of growers and farmers through our youth programming. We believe this leads to the development of a sustainable and robust local food economy. Your donations help us invest creating engaging and fresh educational programming for youth.

Bluegrass Urban Farm Friends (BUFF) is an opportunity for young people in the community to gain knowledge and experience of urban agriculture. As part of their agricultural training, participants learn plant and tree identification, how to care for plants and soil, and how to compost. SEEDS participants also engage in cooking classes and take field trips. Participants will split their time between FoodChain and Seedleaf learning how to grow food in gardens and in an aquaponic system, learn about the issues fueling food insecurity in our community and visiting local farms and environmentally important sites throughout Central Kentucky.

This program is open to middle and highschool students. Participants must have transportation to and from programming.

Seedleaf also supports school partners by supporting the development of outdoor classrooms in schools throughout Fayette County. We work with teachers and students to build and maintain school gardens and support schools in acquiring the resources they need to be successful. In addition to our work throughout the county, Seedleaf works closely with the scholars of George Washington Carver Elementary School and maintain a garden classroom where students can learn by getting dirty.
