Restart at the Kids Cafe

One of the great things about a garden is that you get a few chances each year to start over. A fall planting is such a chance. We brought in new soil and compost and planted cabbage, carrots, and lettuces at the Kids Cafe garden. We had a number of helpful participants involved. And that tall kid is actually Tiffany Thompson, our Americorps VISTA volunteer. She’ll be serving with us for the next year and we are just thrilled to have her on board.

Do join us for any of the following–we are happy to have extra hands, and there is plenty to do these days:

  • Saturday, August 21 9-12–Garden maintenance, harvesting, watering at the London Ferrell Community Garden (250 E. Third St)
  • Monday, August 23 10-2:30–Garden maintenance, watering, etc. at the London Ferrell Community Garden
  • Wednesday, Aguust 25 10:30-12–Garden installation at the Goodloe Garden (Corner of Goodloe and Powell Ave.)
  • Thursday, August 26th 4-5–Maintenance, watering, harvesting, etc. at the Gainesway Community Garden (3640 Milano Rd.)

Thanks much in advance, and email me at ryan@seedleaf.org if you have questions about any of these dates/times.

With the expected heat tomorrow morning (click here to see a forecast), I am a bit concerned about having volunteers out at midday. For this reason I would like to suspend our regular Saturday morning volunteer opportunity at the London Ferrell Community Garden. If you have any questions email me at ryan@seedleaf.org.

The bricks are ready, the soil is coming. All we need now are a few willing hands. If you want to be a part of a garden installation in an underused lot, please join us Thursday morning, August 12th,  between 8 and noon. We’ll begin at the intersection of E. Third Street and Winthrow Way. Bring gloves and a water bottle–it’s probably going to be hot.

Email us or call if you need directions, or if you spot some rain and want to confirm that we’re working:

Join us this Sunday as Seedleaf takes the road show out on the trail. We’ll be part of the free fun at the Town Branch Trail’s Trail-A-Palooza! event. Food, bands, fun–what else would you want on a Sunday? See the handsome poster below for details.

Donations from this event will help Town Branch Trail, INC. continue its great work of highlighting some of the loveliest parts of our town.
