Calling All Jars…

Recently Canned Tomatoes

Recently Canned Tomatoes

It is time to can again. Seedleaf is partnering with La Roca UMC to help you put up some of your tomatoes. So bring your jars*, tomatoes*, and some free time on the morning of September 5th to the lower level of the church. No experience necessary. More details will follow.

*We are accepting donations of both of these items with the canning party in mind. If you don’t have these we’ll try to provide some of each.

Welcome Back, Students

School is in again and we are glad to welcome students back to the gardens we are maintaining at William Wells Brown Elementary, Sayre School, and the Florence Crittendon Home (a Fayette Co. high school). Below are more pictures of some young gardeners/eaters savoring (and learning) in the field, either during school or in after school programs.

If you are interested in visiting a Seedleaf garden, or if you’d like to have one installed at your school or after school program, it is not too late to do so for a fall garden. Contact us soon  at seedleafinfo@gmail.com.

We have so much to celebrate and savor in the autumn. Our friends at Three Springs Farm are planning a gathering to that end. More details will follow, but here is what is set so far–do save the dates:

  • Saturday, October 17–Farm Tour at 4:30; Dinner and poetry reading at 6pm
  • Sunday, October 18–Music and Festivities 1pm-7pm

On Saturday, August 29th, Chris Porter will start at 10am with Seed Saving, then Debbie Wheeler will discuss Worms and Worm Bins at 11am. Ryan will be available at 11:30 to review Compost Basics.

This coming Saturday you have a chance to get acquainted with some worms and some seeds at the London Ferrell Community Garden. At 10am Debbie Wheeler will demonstrate and discuss the benefits of a worm bin, the second in a series of four workshops on composting.

Then at 11am The Edible Garden Workshops continue as Chris Porter will show how to save seeds and answer your questions on the topic. These classes are free, but let us know you are coming so that we can make sure to have enough handouts: seedleafinfo@gmail.com.

Feel free to park on Third St. opposite the garden.
