Volunteer Opportunities

After today’s rain, there will be plenty of weeding and cultivating to do in the gardens. Keep an eye on the Upcoming Events section (in the column to the left) to see where we’ll be working and what we’ll be doing in the weeks to come. This is also the place to watch for upcoming parties and special events. (If you are reading between the lines here you will understand that this new habit has to do with me learning how to use the calendar feature on our website!)

And thanks so much to just a few of our regular volunteers so far this season: Wendy, Stephen, Karen, Ms. Roberta. Your help means more than I can say electronically.

Our TV Debut!

Ryan getting busy turning compost

This past weekend, while we were out enjoying the joyful weekend, WKYT 27 ran a segment on their nightly news that highlighted Seedleaf’s current composting project, along with some of the opportunities at London Ferrell Community Garden. To see the segment, you can visit their site here. And you want to see the stars in person, you can always join us throughout the week at our various projects, including work times at London Ferrel Community Garden most Saturday mornings. Check back often for more celebrity siting opportunities!

Also this week, we had a chance to get some Yukon Gold Potatoes into some larger containers. The young people were pretty excited about the worms they found. They are doing great keeping these plants watered and healthy so far.

Florence Crittendon Home

We spent this past Thrusday morning putting in our 10th garden for 2009 at the Florence Crittendon Home. We planted in existing raised beds, created two larger squares, and ploughed two long strips for raspberries and blackberries. It is such a joy to be working on this garden for all the ways it may serve the residents in the months and years to come.
